Yesterday, I looked at the calendar and saw it was October 21. ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
Where did this year go, let alone this month???
In the past few years, I have had my costumes picked out and have been working on them by this time. This year, I’m so not prepared. I may have to revisit one of my old costumes just to get through Halloween. And the bummer is….this is my favorite time of year. Even over Christmas. And at this time, I got nuthin’!!!!
It’s such a bummer that schedules are so crazy that we can’t even take a few moments to decorate for the holiday.
As the kids get older, it doesn’t seem as urgent or as much of an issue to the kids. They are nearing the age of not trick or treating. Can you imagine? Just yesterday I was sewing their little costumes and now, they have their own ideas and aren’t as concerned.
My heart is sad.
But it’s all been replaced with new activities and other events. Just yesterday, Aspen dressed up for the Nutcracker photo shoot. She was in a party girl dress and posing for the invitation to the Tea. Costumes are not something they are shy of in their lives. They get an average of 5 costumes a year between team and dance. So to dress up for Halloween is just a means to get Candy. It’s not a huge deal to them, though I’m thankful it is still fun. And because Aspen is petite, she can get away with another couple years of trick or treating.
But as most of her friends tower her; she would likely have no one to go with, so I’m guessing her days are numbered.
As we go into this season, I shouldn’t be surprised it’s so late in the month. My days are booked with driving them to their dance and school events.
Avery is still very eager with Halloween; she made me go get her costume weeks ago. That one will never let go of the season.
I envy people who decorate for every season. God knows we have enough Halloween stuff. But the process of getting it all down and putting it all away for just a few weeks is a little too much to me. But I wish I was one of those people.
I can’t even clear the crap that was pulled out of my garage a few weeks ago. It’s a container I’m just supposed to ‘go through’ and figure out keep or toss. I have successfully walked by it for a few weeks now.
So to think about holiday decorations…… not on my list.
I think this week I will target those containers, one at a time; and if I find a little bobble of Halloween, I will proudly display it for the next week…..or month – depending how busy I get.
That’s all I got for now.
Happy Monday
