Kind of weird to ask your daughter if she wants to skip school and go to Disneyland and she says, “Well, I have something at school I want to do!”

………QUOI????? (french for “WHAT???)

THIS, coming from the kid who regularly chants every day after dance, “OHHH  WHY DOES THERE HAVE TO BE SCHOOL????”

So naturally, when she said no, I was a bit shocked.

She felt bad at first.  I wasn’t trying to make her feel bad.  I was just shocked that she opted for school rather than Disneyland…..  on a school day no doubt……

But it is what it is.  I still have another child who is anxious to go.  I sent her to school for a bit and maybe I’ll just take her.  I’m always on the fence of taking them out of school, but they are only young once and by golly, why not take advantage of the days with them????

I’m very proud of both my girls.  Totally different, but totally independent.

The other day we were at the mall with friends and we sent the girls off at the food court to go get their food.  I handed them money and off they went.

What a weird feeling.  You realize they are 3 and 5 years old…….well, in my mind anyways!!

When I was their age, I was walking to the malls by myself.  Which was about 3 miles from  my house.   Nowadays the farthest they have been from any adult spans the length of a food court.

I offered to let my older daughter go to the movie with her friends alone and she said she’s not old enough yet.  I kind of chuckled.  Works for me, I won’t lie!

But this morning I asked if she wants to invite a few friends and do that and she said YES!  Power in numbers I guess.  So, I think I will plan a date.

I like that my kids are attached to me, but they ARE getting older and should be able to exercise just a little more independence and making choices on their own.  I know for a fact my younger daughter would go to the mall with her friends and not think twice that she would have the run of the place.  But her time will come.

For now, it looks like I will be taking my little red-head to Disneyland to enjoy a mom-daughter day.  A quick one, but a nice one.

As far as I’m concerned….my days are numbered.  But then again, they always have been.  I just need to take more advantage.

Happy Thursday!
