HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!
A few days ago I blogged about how this is my favorite holiday, yet I find no time to decorate or create a costume. Well last night I think that settled into my bones and I decided to follow through on something I thought about a few years ago. I ordered some fabric; green and purple velvet (or velour). It was a patch of each, but not enough to make anything, so I had the ide of using both materials and creating a mixed color cape.
I ran short on time for Halloween, so I figured I would pull it out for the Renaissance Faire; but alas, that didn’t happen either. So it sat in my closet until yesterday.
Every so often I get an ‘itch’ to be creative. And yesterday was that day. I went and got a pattern and made the cape.
I am perfectly giddy.
A few things happened during this process. First, I really felt like I was seizing the day. Second… I got so excited I screwed up the cape. When they say measure twice and cut once; what they really mean is don’t drink and sew!! ( just kidding I wasn’t drinking).
I wasn’t paying attention to the pattern and I had single cut fabric; which means I couldnt’ fold it in half and get two pieces from it. So I had to lay it out and use the same pattern piece twice. But what I forgot to do was turn the pattern upside down to cut so it would mirror the other piece………………………………………………………………. ugh…… I waited two years for this.
Did you know that the best creativity comes at moments when you have screwed up??
I sat back and looked at it and realized it was a very forgiving pattern. The pieces are nearly interchangeable and as long as I’m not getting graded on it AND people can tell what it is, then I’m good.
My initial thought was to have green purple green purple……But what I ended up with was half green half purple.
I finished it just before I had to pick up the girls from dance and I was so excited to share with them. When I walked into dance, (wearing it), I got a bunch of funny stares. Do people NOT realize it’s almost Halloween?? GEEEZZZZZZZ
In the end, my sense of accomplishment was great. However, the sense of closure was even more important.
For some reason, when I create a project in my mind there seems to be an “open” ticket running around in my mind until it is completed or literally purged from my mind. And if you don’t know me, I don’t do a lot of purging. So it hangs there in the back of my mind haunting me until ‘it’ (whatever ‘it’ may be) is completed.
I’m happy to say that I can take that Open ticket and switch it to the ‘completed’ pile and close it off in my mind…….. Until I find the next Open ticket that will loom in my brain occupying precious space……
Have a safe and Happy Halloween!!!!!!
Happy Wednesday!
