Soooo……. my HUSBAND asked if I wrote my blog today!  Is is possible that HE is missing the words I write daily?   Is it possible  that HE is aware that I have been slacking???

Well, whether or not that is the case, I will take it as a gentle reminder that I haven’t written.  I often wonder, “Who cares!?”  But I have heard from people every so often; and that is enough for me to NOT abandon this completely!!!

The last 24 hours has been an emotional whirlwind!  Last night we decided we would go out as a family.  Just the four of us.  I mean, my gosh, it’s such a rare occasion, it’s almost a mini vacation – even if only a few hours!!

We started the night by arguing where we would go.   (isn’t this the way all family nights begin?)

I learned long ago that you don’t spend the night “window shopping” with your family, because there is NO window thick enough to hold off two pre-teen girls who wanna spend money.  And they don’t care if you have to sell the family car to get it!  So, going to the mall was OUT!

I had visions of going to a beach; or beach city!  But I wasn’t sure it would fly.  Thankfully, my kids love the beach, so it was down to two possible locations; Laguna or San Clemente.  Being that my kids are me and my sister; one chose Laguna….and the other, San Clemente!!!   We finally decided on Laguna.

When I was a kid, Laguna was my place of choice.  So, to go there made me very happy!!!

As we hardly go there as a family, anything was up for grabs, including the parking spot.  As soon as we got near Main Beach, traffic started backing up.  So we decided to take a back streets and park.  Only we parked away farther than we thought.  Which actually turned out to be okay, because if you have ever been to Laguna, there are shops all up and down PCH!  So we had much to look at as we approached our destination, which was by the way…we had no idea!

Our goal was maybe to catch a bite and gander through a few shops (which of course we couldn’t afford, which made it all the more fun, because then we weren’t just being mean, we were all in awe at how much people would actually spend for certain items!)

In the end, we stopped at a Mediterranean restaurant; which we all liked, but didn’t “love”.

And then we decided to go for Gelato, because there was this cute little Gelato place that was down an alley way that was quaint and small and…..all of Laguna was waiting to go there!!!  The line was halfway down the alley and when we saw it, us girls decided to jump into the chocolatiers next door.  Maybe we will do less damage with a nice little chocolate.  Only the husband; being dutiful and kind, jumped into the line and decided to wait for Gelato for the family  Only he didn’t realize we’d just ordered $20 of chocolate (which in Laguna is about FOUR PIECES) and we had opted out of Gelato….until we found out he was really close to ordering in line; to which we jumped OUT of the Chocolate place and INTO the Gelato place so we could double down!!!!

As a result, we enjoyed an order of Gelato and took our chocolate home, because by this time, even with the long walk back to the car, we were all in a food coma and ready for bed!!!

That said, we enjoyed a really nice family night and would love to do it again…..minus the average dinner and the food coma.  The Gelato is still on the menu for our next visit.  As a matter of fact, both girls said we can skip dinner all together and go straight for the Gelato.

Oh they  make a mother proud……

Happy Sunday!
