I’m feeling really blessed lately with all this awesome weather and a 3 day weekend.  Except for the fact that every minute was scheduled with dance.

This is the part of dance where I go “hummmmm”.  I have some friends taking their kids to the snow today and I can’t.  Between the two kids they have 3.5 hours of dance today.  Right in the middle of the day, thank you.

To be honest; that’s okay by me.  Every time my kids have practice for team, I get excited for competition.  It gives the girls something to strive for when they are dancing.

I have my own stuff to do this week.  As I am photographing all the teams for the dance studio, I have to work on my lighting set up.  I am nervous that the stuff I have isn’t going to be good enough, so I may have to rent what I need.  Normally I’m working in a small area with smaller groups.  This is a much bigger scale for me, so I have some research to do.

I have had a lot of people at the studio ask why I’m not the team photographer in the past.  Many assumed since I shot the recital, I was the natural choice.  But that’s not how it works.   And to be honest, it wasn’t necessarily a job I wanted to do.  In photography there are different areas of interested.  Studio photography isn’t my passion although I have made some great art in the studio.

When it comes to team pictures, there isn’t much room for creativity.  It’s 10 minutes per team to get the group shot AND all the individual shots.  It’s “get in, pose, get out” photography.

Over the years of shooting, I have gotten to know so many of the dancers.  I have spent a lot more time getting to know the teams, and when they asked me to take pictures this year, I was actually quite honored.  To me it’s a really big deal.  I have the chance to add a little flair to the pictures and even though I only have 10 minutes per team; I’m gonna give it the best I got.

So, this week, I have to start doing research and getting my ducks in a row.  Saturday and Sunday will be busy.  Can’t wait to see what I can drum up for the fun!

Happy Monday
