Yesterday was such a nice day. We started the day at South Coast Plaza. Aspen wanted to get a shirt with her birthday money. She really wanted it, because she dragged me out of the house the day after Christmas to make sure it was still there!!
As luck would have it; it WAS there and it happened to be on SALE!!! So she got it for a reduced price, which is great! She is giddy. She is wearing it this morning for her dance private and it happens to match perfectly with hip hop sweats she got for Christmas! SWEET!!!
In the afternoon, I was going to see Les Miserables by myself with the kids being babysat at a movie that started the same time as mine. However, our poor babysitter got sick. Something nasty is going around and I’m just thankful that we haven’t caught anything thus far. But my heart went out to our babysitter.
I could say I was disappointed, but as a mom, you have to go with the flow. Plans change all the time. And when I got the call from the girls mom, my first thoughts were about how miserable our little friend must feel and I felt bad for her mom. There is nothing worse than seeing your child sick!!
My second thought was, I’ll see the movie another day.
When you have kids, it is what it is. You don’t plan these things and you have to be ready at the drop of a hat to take care of your kids.
So, after the mall, we just went home and relaxed a bit. And instead of us each seeing a movie, we decided to go to a movie together.
It was a nice night of dinner and a movie with the girls. While at the table, I ripped a piece of paper and made a ‘football’ out of it and started flicking it across the table through Aspen’s ‘field goal’. It was all fun and games until the ‘football’ almost pegged the little girl behind Aspen. So we stopped. But it was fun while it lasted!
The movie was Pitch Perfect. PG-13. Aspen’s just on the cusp, but Avery’s another story. I decided to take the plunge. There were a few things I cringed about, but most of them went over the girls heads.
What I really got a kick out of, was when the girls laughed. Aspen gets more than I thought and Avery is like me. She likes the physical comedy.
In the end we all loved the movie and will likely see it again. Who doesn’t love singing and competition!!!
The best part was just hanging with the girls in a leisurely way and enjoying an ‘almost’ adult (non-kiddie) movie together.
This is a really fun age with my girls and I want to eat up every moment. Yesterday, I’m glad I had the chance!
The day wasn’t what I planned, but is sure turned out pretty awesome!
Happy Thursday!
