People please…. for the love of whomever you believe in I beg you….. get OVER yourselves.
This may shock you, but I’m gonna go off here for a minute…..
I have had or been witness to multiple people complaining about pictures that have been posted of them on facebook. We’ve all been there. You get up one morning, stumble to your computer, check facebook, and BAAMMMM….. an unflattering picture of you. But WAIT….it’s been up there a few hours and has some comments underneath…. most flattering you.
So, I ask you…. what are you likely to do at that moment?
A. Laugh at the unflattering picture of yourself
B. Go get coffee and contemplate the poster’s untimely death
C. Unfriend the poster
D. REMARK ABOUT HOW ATROCIOUS YOU LOOK SO NOW THAT EVERYONE WHO DIDN’T SEE IT BEFORE CAN NOW FOCUS ON IT???????
I can’t tell you HOOOOOW many times over the years I have looked at a picture of someone and thought, “oh how sweet”, or “how pretty”, or better yet, not even look at them at all because they are in a group and I can hardly see them, and underneath is a comment placed by “the offendent” (the person who is offended) bringing IMMEDIATE ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES by placing a comment redirecting anyones potential attention right over to them.
It’s actually priceless if you think about it. I’m a photographer. My job is to take pictures and simply document one’s life. For some, I’m the only true evidence that you were here.
I tell my clients all the time, “You are the parents of your children. Your children WANT you in the picture. They don’t see the rolls of your belly, or the double chin, they simply see THEIR PARENTS, whom they (hopefully) love and adore. So shut up and get in the picture!!!” (yes I really do say that).
So when you are looking at a picture of yourself on facebook, chances are your friends and family are looking the picture EVER SO BRIEFLY, glance at you, throw a comment and move on!
UNTIL – that is you take the time to say, “OH MY GOSH, THAT OUTFIT LOOKED TERRIBLE ON ME, I HATE THIS PICTURE!” or “OH GROSS MY HAIR WAS SO GREASY” or “GOD I LOOK FAT”
………………….. do you see what just happened there? They had already passed over your picture and threw a quick ‘like’ or comment. and in doing so, when you post how much you hate yourself, you now REDIRECT them back to your picture so they can focus on EXACTLY WHAT YOU DON’T WANT THEM TO SEE!!!!!!
Like I said, we have ALL been there. It’s FACEBOOK and InSTAGRAM land….. we can’t get away from the quick shots that could potentially ruin our lives (in our own minds of course).
So, knowing this, please take your bad pictures with a grain of salt and for the love of all that is holy….. don’t comment your own personal issues on your pictures!!!! You aren’t doing yourselves any favors.
If you REALLY hate your pictures, you can politely ask your friends that they ONLY post flattering pictures that you approve (which of course will be NONE)…… or you can learn to hide the body.
That’s all I got!
