I had a plan to keep my kids home today and call it “PJ DAY”. I’ve been missing my kids with dance and other stuff. But the truth is, when I think about all the things I have to get done and I look at my house I realize this is a great day to take advantage of my solitude and get things done without interruption.

We have a lot of people coming over for Christmas eve and the house isn’t even finished being decorated, let alone cleaned. I also have some orders that need to be fulfulled and today is the day.

I’m glad I didn’t say anything to my kids about PJ day. They would have been disappointed and I would have heard an earful and felt bad, like I took something away from them. And even though I did take something away from them, they never knew I was going to give it to them in the first place.

As a mother, I have learned to keep things under wraps. My kids are on a need to know basis. And they don’t need to know they had the chance to stay home and sit on the couch with me all day.

I’ve tried to plan a lot of things lately and because of the time of year, they fell through. I have had to see “that look” on my kids faces more than one time this month and I have learned to do my best to keep it to a minimum.

I work best on a whim. I’m not a planner and it drives my husband crazy. You’d think after 16 years together he’d pick up on it, but he is such a planner and anticpator that he can’t see things my way. But that’s okay. Together, I would like to say we balance each other out.

This week is going to be about putting stuff together. Getting the gifts out, sorted and wrapped. Finding the gifts that got lost (because there are always a few) and finalizing the list to see who we missed (because there is always a few!).

I want my house to be festive and clean. But I’ll shoot for festive.

Nutcracker is this weekend and I have a bit of sewing to do. So the sewing machine is on the dining room table…along with my holiday cards, picture frames and other crazy things that don’t belong on a dining room table.

So, though I will have no PJ day, at least I didn’t officially take something from my kids.

Unless they read my blog, I’m in the clear!

Here’s looking forward to a productive day!
Happy Monday
