One of my very consistent behaviors is putting the cart before the horse.  I don’t think things through, I just see things in pieces.  I’m not a big picture kind of girl.

So when it comes to the holidays; all I know is there are things that we need; Gifts and cards.  So I take care of it.

But the problem is – though I remember I had a few cards left over last year, I realized I didn’t hand them all out like I meant to.  And I didn’t stop to think when I ordered a gaggle of cards that I should probably compile my list FIRST!

Now…I have a ton of cards and no current addresses.  And I’m reminded why I was left with many cards left over last year!!!!

I always say I live my life in hindsight; but I didn’t mention that I don’t always learn from it!

As the cards roll in, I’m collecting them and compiling my list.  I did get a number of people emailing me their address (thank you, your cards are written out). But the next step would be to actually put the addresses in my list, so I have them for next year!!!

You have to realize though….the fact that I even have a list to work off is huge for me.  It’s the most organized I can claim myself.  So I am not terribly disappointed in myself.

But let’s talk about gifts……

I’m staring at gifts as I write, that weren’t given out last year.  And I can actually find even more gifts that weren’t given out the year before.

Why? You ask…..  because I lost them.  And now they are obsolete, so to hand them out would be awkward.

I look for sales, I purchase with the intent of giving the gift a home…and then I promptly lose them, or forget to assign them.

And the best part is…when Christmas comes, I usually end up short some where.  Usually on the guys side.  I don’t buy for guys.  That is my husband’s job.  But unless he knows who he is buying for; he buys for no one……

So, this week, I’m digging and emailing for addresses.  The piles of gifts are all around me, and I’m wondering which one I will forget.

But at least I keep the holiday tradition going strong.
No one said traditions are always great.  But if it’s been happening every year, isn’t that what we start calling it???
