So, I look on Facebook and I see how people are stockpiling and hoarding Hostess products. The plant is closing and Hostess will be selling off their product line to the highest bidders.
Though I feel it’s really depressing that this is happening, I don’t see the point in stockpiling something I will never get again. I haven’t had any of the products in probably years and my kids have had very little access to them. They just aren’t on my radar.
Growing up, we had them regularly. But as an adult, I just can’t take the hit!! Every so often I get a Twinkie just to remind me what they taste like. But to go out now and stockpile on something we don’t regularly get and then create a craving and a hole in my heart once their gone just doesn’t seem like a wise move.
But as I see the posts, I think to myself, “DO IT!!! GO GET ‘EM!!!”
Isn’t it funny how advertising of any sort gets you thinking?? I HEAR about the plant closing; and I’m sad…… I see people running the mad dash to buy up the goods – and suddenly I feel left out??
Curiouser and curiouser……
I’d like to say I’m not influenced. But we all fall prey to that which happens around us! Take a look at Black Friday!
HOARDS of people, who have barely recovered from food coma’s feel the need to pile out of their house at ungodly hours of the night to get the best deals on gifts for the season. WHO STARTED THIS??
And of course it gets earlier and earlier every year. I think some sales started at midnight last year. That’s just a recipe for disaster if you ask me!?!?!
But people do it. It’s all the hype! I got a call from a friend just a few days ago, disclosing some of the deals for Black Friday!
I don’t even have my list made yet!!! It’s crazy!!
I have a middle schooler now. And though she knows better than to ask for the name brands of clothes; when I happened to bring home a bag from that store full of clothes for her, she was perfectly giddy. Her friends wear those clothes and she secretly had been wanting them. I was very happy for her that she got what she wanted!
I constantly see people looking around at others, making choices based on what choices have been made. We all do it! Some more than others. But the question is why?
I remember a saying years ago that made no sense to me and used to irritate me. And then one day, I got it: “Just when you thought you caught up with the Joneses….they REFINANCE!!!”
I know lots of people who appear to have it all together. But the truth is, we are all like each other. No one is better than the next. But we are influenced by those we admire. And that’s okay. It’s always nice to have someone to look up to.
But when I think about the Hostess situation….I have decided, I will let my heart be sad….while letting my waistline remain the same.
To Hostess….you are a childhood staple and will be missed. You will be talked about for decades to come; and some will save Twinkies, JUST to see if they do really last forever. Thank you for the many mornings I feasted on your donuts. You will be missed!
Happy Saturday
