Well, I hope your Halloween was good! Mine was very eventful.
I started the day with my little reading group. I think I redeemed myself from the yelling last week. I showed up dressed as (what I call) the Halloween Fairy. Orange and black stockings with orange and black dress; a cape, a Halloween headband and a Spider Web drawn on my face. Avery’s teacher wasn’t necessarily impressed with my get up, but he was intrigued with my spider web. He asked how I did it, and I told him I had to go to college to learn how to do it because it was so complicated. He looked at me for a second and then realized I was joking.
I took the kids to the library and we started reading. After a few minutes I pulled out the candy. I gave them each a couple of pieces and they ate while they read. Any yelling was forgiven at this point, I assure you.
I came home and started piecing together my night-time outfit. All I knew I had was a hat a mask and some tights. Wasn’t sure how to fill in the rest, but I eventually figured it out.
In the evening we went to a friend’s house and trick or treated around their neighborhood. We barely rounded one big street (which were half dark) and the kids started complaining about their feet. The adults just laughed. They had no idea how many miles we would walk when we were kids to fill our pillowcases full; come home and dump and go out for more. And here these kids were complaining after one street??? REALLY??
We decided to go to a small cul-de-sac before we headed back. I asked some boys who were coming out of the street if there were a lot of houses answering the door. One boy said, “Yes. And one of the houses is handing out FULL SIZE candy bars!!!”
And with that – the energy came back into the kids.
We ran up the street and the kids split up looking for ‘the’ house. You wouldn’t know that just a few short minutes ago they were complaining they were done.
When they found the house, they were all excited and so we headed back.
It’s so sad. The neighborhood where we went has a ton of kids in it. But I saw barely a handful of trick or treaters running around.
When I came back home, the girls went up to bed and I walked across the street to my neighbors house. They were all out front (about 10) sitting around a campfire, chatting. So I invited myself it. We chatted for a few hours and off I went to bed.
When I woke up, all I could smell is the smoke in my hair. YUCK!!! I took a shower, but still it’s lingering.
I had a great time getting the girls up. In fine fashion, they didn’t want to be bothered. But I finally got them up and out. Now, I think I will dry my hair, and cozy back into bed for a while. I haven’t done that in forever!! But today….just sounds like the right day to do it!
Happy November!!!
