Super excited today.  We are taking advantage of the many great excursions California has to offer and we are going to Venice Beach.

Why Venice Beach, you ask? (Even if you didn’t I will tell you anyway).

A friend (who is moving out-of-state soon) threw it out there that she was going to take her boys to Venice Beach and asked for volunteers to go with her.  I told her it sounded interesting, but wasn’t sure when I said it because I have a pretty busy schedule.  The day was set for Saturday.

Last night, I got a text about playing hookie today and I had to think about it.  I was going to say no and send her to have a good day without us.

But as I got to thinking I remembered what she said;  Venice Beach was something she and her husband talked about doing with the boys many times.  But now she is going alone, because her husband is already in their  new home in Virginia.  It made me realize how we take this lovely state for granted and if I didn’t go with her, I would likely never jump in my car to check it out!

So I am seizing the day.

California has so many great attractions that are within our reach.  Venice Beach is only a little over an hour away.  It’s been there for years.  I think in my life I was there maybe once.  But I’m not totally certain, because it was when I was a teenager.

I remember the day I walked to the Hollywood sign with my brother and his family.  As we walked as a group, I thought to myself, GOSH we are blessed to live so close to so many things.  WHY don’t I do this more often?

And when my friend asked about playing hookie, I thought, “Oh no…..the girls have school and we’d have to skip dance, and yadda yadda yadda…..”

Well….Pee SHAW I say!  I’m going to seize the day, check out all that Venice Beach has to offer and hang with a friend and her kids.  The girls are so excited as her kids are their friends.  I wish we could have made it more of a group thing, but the fact that we won’t be doing it alone and will be sharing this day is very exciting to me.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the local attractions in your area.  We all tend to take the for granted because they are so close.  But if we don’t take advantage of them; they may as well be a million miles away!
