Happy 12-12-12.
I find myself looking at the calendar more and more. And the To Do list, which I have been putting off is getting bigger and bigger and creeping up on me. It’s time to start wrapping things and putting them under the tree. To this point I have just been collecting and hiding them. Now, it’s time to dig them out and hopefully find all that I have purchased.
It’s so funny; with kids you have to be sneaky. I remember as a kid, I went through my parents stuff all the time when they were gone. (Sorry mom, I know you are reading this). But my parents room intrigued me. I used to sit in my moms big walk in closet and look at her dresses. I mentally took note of each one I wanted when I grew up.
I used to go through her vanity and play with her make up. My mom and a nice sitting area where she could get ready. I remember her electric blue Mary Kay eye shadow was in the top drawer. I practiced with it until I got my own. I’m guessing she didn’t care. Or didn’t know, because she never said anything to me.
But I just loved going through their stuff, because it was the adult world. My dad had a gun in his room; it was under his nightstand. Thankfully, he taught us early on how to use it, so I knew it wasn’t a toy. But it was still intriguing to me.
So needless to say, I’m guessing my kids do the same. I would be naive in assuming my kids haven’t dug around. The other day, Avery walked into my closet and then quickly turned around. And I got the feeling it was because she saw something she knew she wasn’t supposed to see.
The trick now is to find where I shoved stuff. And as the packages were coming in the mail, I realized that I hadn’t totally designated who I bought the gifts for. They could go a couple of different ways. And without a list; I am sure the forget someone. THIS is where I get myself in trouble.
At least now, with the girls, they are different enough sizes I can tell. But in years past when they were the same size, I ran into “SHE got more than I did!!!” And that was because I wasn’t paying attention and I didn’t count! This year will be different!!!
The holiday is coming up fast. We are already almost halfway into December. Every day is going to count now. I need to do something every day toward getting my stuff done. We are having Christmas eve here and we are hosting people who will likely want to sit down somewhere. Wouldn’t it be nice if I could actually give that to them???
Here’s to the countdown to Christmas!!!
Happy Wednesday!!!
